Valentine's Vengeance Review
By Sweet Daddy Siki

CCW's first card of the year took place in February, appropriately called, Valentine's Vengeance. Before I went to see this card, I have been reading some pro wrestling books I received for Xmas. One of those books is by Ole Anderson and is called ' "Inside Out".. Besides being a member of the 4 Horsemen group, Ole had a great career as a tag team wrestler in the AWA and later as a booker for Georgia Championship Wrestling. Ole is a very angry man at times in this book. What this shows you is that the best wrestler characters will have some of their real personalities incorporated into their wrestling personas.

After reading his book and his thoughts on booking pro wrestling, I can see why he is often an angry guy at times.

Our first match of the evening features crowd favorite JB Cool and the Russian day dream, Mikhail Koloff, along with his manager Dr. Red. Right off the bat I felt like Ole Anderson and was ready to fire Koloff and Dr. Red for their endless parade to the ring area. IN his book , Ole would have used Koloff as an example of not knowing his role on the program. Koloff is a prelim wrestler in the first match which has to start a card in a certain fashion. This is to all lead to a build up for the main event wrestlers which is what draws the house. Koloff is drawing flies now and Dr. Red is drawing straws at times.

We have a TNA star in Shane Sewell along with CCW star JB Cool who are the attractions in this match. Koloff and Dr. Red begin a very tedious walk to the ring area which does not generate any heat except anger for waiting for these two to get into the ring. Once the match began we finally had some action which led to a below the belt slam on JB by Koloff. Koloff attempted to take advantage of a stunned JB while Dr. Red climbed onto the ring apron. JB is a smart veteran of the ring and popped Dr. Red and ducked a Koloff swing which led to the pin and win by JB. There is good heat and bad heat Koloff, learn the difference.

Up next was, in my opinion, a good idea which came off too chintzy. The 6'10" Isis came to the ring while CCW Ladies Champ Jessika Haze was in her street clothes and accompanied by Rico Cassanova and Mayor Venis. The back and forth banter was basically to state that Jessika would not face Isis, but a new designated # 1` challenger. This new # 1 contender was the very small Annie Moore who the crowd did not accept as a contender for the gold. In a spilt second, the bell rang and Jessika gave Annie the silliest belt shot and pinned Annie Moore in seconds. I know what the intent was with this match, however, it came of very cheap and cartoonish where Jessika needs to be built into a real villain and the crowd demands revenge for Annie via Isis. I would have had Jessika play with Annie like a cat with a dead mouse with multiple pin attempts where she pulls Annie up until Isis can not take this terrible injustice and cleans house. I do not think that this segment went over too well with the crowd this evening.

Up next was a tag team encounter between The Sons of Liberty and Dade County Collision. I was looking forward to this as the SOL team is a great team to watch in the future as it has a powerful Mohawked leader and his sidekick who looks like Bud Bundy of the old "Married with Children" TV show. DCC has been growing on me each time I see them as they are capturing the fine details of being a heel tag team with an ever growing dissension within to add to their depth. We started off with one of my favorite tag team moves where DCC jumps our heroes who are on the ring ropes acknowledging the cheers of the fans instead of paying attention to their opponents. Marvel, of the Sons team was beaten and battered so bad I am surprised that no one called the Coral Springs PD for help. After an endless series of tags with both members of DCC taking turns pummeling Marvel, the hot tag was made and the Mohawk haired Son began to whip both members back and forth to the delight of the crowd. After a powerful body slam and TKO being out of position, Kaotic Romeo was pinned. After the match we had more fireworks between TKO and Romeo with Romeo being thrown very violently out of the ring. Romeo almost tore up his ankle as it hit the ring barriers. Both members of DCC battled each other back to the dressing room.

A newcomer to CCW named The Future Donovan Ruddick, complete with a manager came to battle CCW favorite JT Flash. I really think that the crowd was going to see a squash of Ruddick by JT, but boy were they surprised. Ruddick was very impressive in his CCW debut and ended the match with a very unique slam of JT to the mat for the pin. Both JT and the crowd was stunned by Ruddick.

A battle royal was next on the card with the surprise win by newcomer Ernie Alexander who took advantage of the wrestlers who were paying more attention to Vyper outside the ring then to Ernie inside the ring. So far, CCW has had a Battle Royal every few cards which is just enough to make them special. Congratulations to Ernie Alexander for the win.

Earlier in the evening we had Shane Sewell set up to be Bruno Sassi's tag partner against the Heavenly Bodies. Big Till was unable to get to Coral Springs for some strange reasons and the Bodies were doing a great floor show with the fans about how they now deserve the tag belts. The Heavenly Bodies may not have the best physiques in CCW, but they have among the best mouths to rile up a crowd. Bruno looked different as his hair was now a darker color instead of the normal South Florida Blonde we see down here. The Bodies put on a great show and went toe to toe with Shane and Bruno when they were in the ring together. Usually though, one of the bodies was outside the ring whipping the other team or distracting the ref. The action went back and forth with Shane making a great comeback and outsmarting the Bodies. The Bodies, sensing that there was no way they could beat Shane and Bruno who almost double pinned them, ignored the ref so much that a DQ was finally called. I hope to see the Heavenly Bodies appear again as they are a good dirty tag team who can rile up a crowd real fast.

Our next match was the popular Pablo Marquez against Kahagas who came with Rico Cassanova to the ring. This was a great match and the fans ate it up. Kahagas gets better and better when he is fed better opponents and Pablo is a fantastic wrestler. There is an intensity when you get two great wrestlers with a title at stake as neither one can afford to lose. If you want to see a match with great bumps and intensity, this one is near the top of the list. Kahagas in one great spot flew through the ropes via Pablo and landed on Rico . Pablo later was able to make a fantastic leap over the top rope to land on and stunned Kahagas. Rico did what he had to do to save Kahagas and punched Pablo who was trying to get back into the ring to finish off Kahagas. In a split second, Rico held Pablo's feet and Kahagas was able to get the pin. Great match.

Isis was up next to face Kimberly. Isis has lost weight and looked better and more in shape then ever. She is still raw talent and needs a lot more ring time to have her skills match her aura. To be honest. Kimberly was the wrong opponent for her. Isis needs opponents whom the crowd wants to be choke slammed and tossed around like trash. Kimberly is way too nice, good looking and fun to watch to meet that criteria. A better opponent would have been Betsy Ruth or a Sybil Pageant managed mare. Isis still was able to show off her strength in lifting the ref off of his feet for the crowd. After a slow exchange of basic holds and escapes, Isis lifted up Kimberly and choke slammed her for the pin. Isis is still raw and green and needs a slow build up for the eventual showdown with Jessika Haze.

Our final event of the evening was between CCW champ Dok Rivers and former WWE star Chaz of the Tag Team The Headbangers. I have met Chaz in a professional environment and he is a real gentleman. Chaz got the crowd roaring when he lifted his skirt to show off his Skooby Do underwear and put Dok Rivers to shame. Chaz and Dok area about the same size and Dok was not able to manhandle Chaz as he tries to do with other opponents. Dok began to look real flustered as Chaz was not backing down and countered every move by Dok. As it looked like Dok was losing control of the match, Kahagas came in and the ref had no choice but to DQ Dok. Chaz won the match, but you do not win the gold with a DQ win. As Kahagas and Dok were putting the boots to Chaz, JB Cool rushed to the ring to make the save. This was a good match, which unfortunately did not have the build up benefit from a past show. Chaz is a good worker and a crowd favorite and should be brought back as an added attraction when possible.

Overall, I did enjoy this event, though it is not among my favorites. Maybe I am being too critical after reading Ole Anderson's book and honed in on what were in my opinion, small booking errors. I also think that I have high standards for CCW shows and would rather have this as the first card of the year instead of the final card. There are so many garbage Indy cards that I have seen over the years that an average CCW card is light years ahead of most other promotions.
