Palladium Wrestling Review

On Saturday night, November 22nd in Davie, CCW presented their first student show at Body Slam University at the Palladium. Having attend prior shows at the old BSU, I was very happy to see the student shows moved here. In the old facility, you could not climb to the top rope without breaking through the roof! The card attracted a nice sized crowd of a 130 or so which is pretty good .

The facility is very good for a card like this except for the ringside barriers being too close to the ring. I believe that they inhibited some flying moves as there was barely enough room to get around the ring .

-Our first match was between JT Flash and Scott Passion. This match showed very clearly what happens when you work out seriously and gain experience by wrestling at every opportunity presented to you. JT , though a newcomer looked very relaxed as a professional while Scott Passion fell behind him as the match progressed. At a certain point I knew it was curtains for Passion as he was gassed out and barely breathing while JT's heart and lungs were barely above their resting level. JT did a very cool backward flip which led to his pinning of Passion. Good opening match and the crowd respected both wrestlers.

-Up next was Nacio Barone in his University of Miami outfit against Ace Skyfighter. Right off the bat , the name Ace Skyfighter has to go. This is pro wrestling in Davie, not a Yugi-oh card show in a Hollywood hotel ballroom. Ace was able to go toe to toe with Barone until the Dade County Collision rushed to the ring and attacked Barone which caused the ref to give a DQ win to Barone. Poor Ace was on the floor when this happened and was not able to celebrate as the DCC put the boots to him as well. This brought out Pablo Marquez and Matt Bateman to make the save and set up a tag bout later that evening. Good run in and set up to build up for the tag match.

-Cash Money Alex G came to the ring with Dr Red being announced as his manager, filling in for Harry Venis for the evening. At least Alex G finally got some cash money and threw away his old ripped up and stained ring outfit for some brand new attire. The plan was for Alex G to do a gauntlet match and take on 4 CCW Body Slam University students in a row.

Alex G made quick work of the masked KGB who looked like he had the mask on too tight and was wobbly the whole time.

Next, Sean Phoenix ran to ring with his only hope which was to jump Alex G while he was still tired. That did not work out too well as he went down with a big splash.

Jon "The torch" Palmar went down with a Russian Leg Sweep, a hold which I have yet to see KGB do. Finally, Bad Dog Bullock came to the ring . I was confused here because at a previous show, Bad Dog claimed that he was cutting back on wrestling to be with his family. As most men find out, that is not always fun or something you want to do around the clock. Lucky for us Bad Dog was able to battle Alex G and treated Dr. Red like a cold sore. Bad Dog did a great running spear to Alex G and pinned him. Poor Dr. Red was like a cartoon character where his feet were moving, but the rest of him did not. The match ended with Alex G slow to get up and the crowd booing Dr. Red whose debut ended in a loss.

-American Taliban came to the ring with the SnakeMaster who did not have his snake with him. I was worried that maybe the economy has caught up with the SnakeMaster and his snake was repossessed for a bad loan. Shane Mclane now calls himself "By the book" which makes me wonder what book is he using to guide him. It obviously can't be a winning playbook as Shane battled to a loss at the hands of The American Taliban. I really think that Shane was far better as a Canadian and this new Mohawk haircut is looking scary.

-Up next we had a triple threat match between Bobby Sanford, Ernie Alexander and Pretty boy Johnny Velvet. Bobby Sanford did the smart thing this evening and did not wear that goofy hat which distracts people from focusing on him. I have to admit that my favorite was Johnny Velvet. First, I love that name as wrestling is also about showmanship as well as athletics. I would suggest to Johnny Velvet that he get rid of the Pretty Boy moniker and look at a bottle of Black Velvet. I see the ring announcer saying "Here is smooooth Johny Velvet entering the ring". The match was pretty good as everyone knew their spots and put on an entertaining match. Bobby Sanford emerged victorious . After the matches ended I caught a glimpse of Johnny Velvet dancing to the ring area. He has a lot of potential.

-The next match was somewhat disappointing to the crowd. The Russian Mikail Koloff, all the way from St. Petersburg Russia was to face newcomer Alex Chamberlain. This match was an attempt at an older and slower style, but was too slow for this crowd. The crowd began to entertain themselves by making fun of how Koloff would go SSSSSSS when he was trapped in a hold. Catching your breath and figuring out how to counter the hold is one thing, letting the crowd get away from your match is another thing. At one time ,both participants ran the ropes and messed up a move to the laughter of the crowd. I was shocked that Alex G did not come down and do a beat down on them.
The match picked up steam in the end as Chamberlain blocked a Koloff clothesline and gave him a DDT for the pin.

-Ladies champion Sybil Pageant faced Kimberly for the CCW Ladies Championship. This match had a ten minute time limit and I can't help but wonder if it was designed to get the ladies to understand how to time a match. Sybil seems to be getting bigger around the waist at every card. She could hide a spare tire of a small motorcycle as a foreign object based on the new growth. Kimberly had the belly shirt while Sybil has the Goth Girdle. They traded moves back and forth and thankfully did not rely on cheap clotheslines . Their match went right to the wire as Kimberly did get a three count on Sybil, however, the last slap of the mat was after the bell rang and the time limit expired.

-Our main event was a tag feature between Pablo Marquez and Matt Bateman against Dade County Collision. This really was a great match as Pablo is a fantastic wrestler and Bateman was a good partner for him. DCC did the smart thing by jumping the good guys before the match began and whipping them from corner to corner. This match had just the right combination of power moves , high flying and dirty tricks to keep the audience interested and never leaving. This match was a great example of how tag matches work with Bateman getting one slam after another and never being able to reach his corner. Both DCC wrestlers were laughing at how helpless Bateman was and snearing at Pablo. After near tags, Bateman was able to escape the clutches of DCC and make the hot tag to Pablo.

Pablo was brilliant as he was able to use one move after another to dizzy DCC where they no longer were in control. After the one eyed DCC member was knocked out of the ring to the floor, Pablo did a spectacular back flip move to pin Chaotic Romeo for the pin. A great match and one I hope all of the students were watching.

This was a great night of matches and worth the drive to Davie.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Holiday and look forward to being at the December Hard Core Holiday event in Coral Springs!
