Summer Heat marked the
return of former CCW Heavyweight Champion Dustin Rhodes
after being sidelined with a knee injury. He filled in for
Big Til who, ironically, is out of commission following
arthoscopic surgery on his knee. Dustin tagged with Bruno
Sassi to face the up and coming team of Dade County Collision.
Bruno and Dustin appeared to be getting along with one another
and worked well as a team. They even seemed to be having
fun while trying to one up each other with their offensive
moves. Dade County Collision was not to be denied though
as they managed to gain the advantage on Dustin and cut
the ring in half, preventing the tag to a well rested Bruno
Sassi. After several minutes of punishment, Dustin was able
to roll out of the way and avoid 340 pounds of Tito Barrera
that was about to crash into him from the second turnbuckle.
Dustin made the tag to Bruno who came in and cleaned house,
but eventually all four men were in the ring as the ref
lost all control. Dustin gave Barrera the bulldog while
Bruno gave Kaotic Romeo the Initiation and the ref counted
three on Romeo, the legal man in the match.
It was time to celebrate, or so Bruno and his manager Seth
Gregg thought. Dustin is very competitive and wasn't happy
watching Bruno score the pin while he had just taken a beating.
The two began to argue, much to the dismay of Seth and the
crowd in attendance. Seth was able to calm the situation
down enough and get everyone out of the ring and back to
the locker room so this could all be straightened out in
a rational manner.
In the main event of the evening Warlord was facing Dok
Rivers for the Heavyweight Title. Dok's manager, Harry Venis,
had a plan just in case Warlord was too much for Rivers
to handle. He ended up putting his plan into effect and
ordered Kahagas, Dade County Collision and several other
CCW Superstars to hit the ring, causing a disqualification.
A beat down of the Warlord ensued until the locker room
emptied and the bad guys headed for the hills. Bruno and
Dustin were among those who came to the rescue and Dustin
was ticked off at Bruno for running out ahead of him. Again
the crowd was in disbelief. Finally the ring cleared and
Summer Heat was a wrap.
In an effort to nip a bad situation in the bud, Bruno invited
Dustin out with him and Seth after the matches so they could
get some food and put this pettiness behind them. Several
of the wrestlers saw them leave together and everything
seemed fine. What happened next may never really be known
because nobody is talking, but Bruno came into Bodyslam
University the Monday after Summer Heat with a black eye
and a broken nose. Sassi is trying to claim that it happened
during the melee in the main event but nobody even remembers
him taking a shot, let alone one bad enough to mark up his
face the way it was.
Is this situation worse than we first thought? We could
find out at September Fallout on September 6th as Dustin
and Bruno will once again join forces and compete as a team.
Can The Man in Charge Seth Gregg keep everything under control?
Or are Bruno and Dustin destined to be opponents rather
than partners? We'll find out at Fallout and we hope to
see everyone at the matches!
